Lineages

There are a multitude of peoples in the Skitterbarren, all with their own unique sizes, shapes, and physical traits. Below are all of the current playable lineages, including their descriptions, appearance, and unique Lineage Traits. While these decriptions offer commentary on general behavior, common cultural practices, or lands that many of them hail from, no group of people are a monolith. Lineages can call anywhere home, can participate in a multitude of cultural traditions, and differ from each other.

Badgers

Description

Badgers are known to be a large, tough folk hailing from beyond the Northern Reaches. Badgers tend to be blunt and straightforward, an attitude shaped by the harsh winters in the far north. Many live nomadically, journeying across the Skitterbarren without a singular place to call home.

Attribute: +2 to Brawn.

Nomad's Fortitude

All across the Skitterbarren, Badgers are renown for their natural strength and legendary endurance. Once per day, a Badger can exert their natural sturdiness and halve all incoming damage for 5 rounds (or 30 seconds). This effect applies to all damage types and sources.

Moles

Description

Moles are short, stout folk hailing from the foothills of the Northern Reaches. Accustomed to living underground or in small surface settlements, most Moles are skilled miners and artisans who have honed their senses.

Attribute: +1 to Knack.
+1 to Wits.

Dweller's Vision

Moles have evolved keen senses for living under the ground. Your ability to sense vibrations in the earth means that in if you are blinded, are in darkness or low-light, or otherwise visually impaired, you may still "see" objects and creatures within 60 feet of you, provided that said object or creature moved in the last 5 turns (or 30 seconds).

Mice

Description

Mice are generally squat, pliable folk scattered throughout the Skitterbarren. Mice may not be as strong or dexterous as other lineages, but they make up for that with courage and savvy when called upon to defend their home or embark on an adventure.

Attribute: +1 to Knack.
+1 to Wits.

Ardent Heart

Despite their smaller size, Mice are known for their big hearts and immense courage. Once per day, a Mouse may summon the courage deep within their heart, instantaneously providing a Boon for their party.

Rats

Description

Rats are generally large, sinewy folk who call the wastes and ruins of the Skitterbarren home. Rats stand out for their strength and stature most of all, which they employ often as they press on through the wastes and protect their kin from monsters..

Attribute: +1 to Brawn.
+1 to Wits.

Packrat

Rats are naturals at find useful items where others might not. Whenever you roll to search bodies or chests in ruins or amongst salvage from the Ancients, you can double your find if your natural roll is 8 or higher.

Squirrels

Description

Squirrels are a nimble, slender people native to the verdant woods Green Jewels. They are the best in the Skitterbarren at navigating great heights and can climb even the tallest of trees with relative ease. Even in urban areas, they can be seen scampering on rooftops and climbing the tallest towers.

Attribute: +2 to Knack.

Treelimb Scamper

Squirrels are born masters at nimbly navigating treelimbs and buildings at great heights. As such, any squirrel can climb at the cost of 1 Energy Point, as opposed to the usual 2.

Stoats

Description

Stoats are generally tall, lithe folk who have survived on the coasts of the oceans at the edges of the Skitterbarren. Stoats are crafty and clever, which they need to survive on the coastlines, catching fish and fending off gulls and massive sea beasts.

Attribute: +1 to Brawn.
+1 to Knack.

Wiley Ways

Stoats just have the uncanny ability to wiggle their way through an otherwise inaccessible opening. Once per day, a Stoat can move as though they are a creature one size smaller, also making them harder to hit with ranged weapons for 5 rounds (or 30 seconds). While this effect is active, incoming ranged attack rolls are reduced by your Knack fortitude.
